If I were able to decide where and when to be born in, I would totally want to live in the 1920 era, in United States of America. The roaring twenties, where everyone were able to afford the same goods, listened to the same music, danced the same, used the same slangs, this was basically the era where everyone came together in the US. Of course as natural as the earthly human beings are, there were conflicts and social tensions in this era, but, hey, this was the glam era, where everyone partied lots and everything seem possible and hopeful. The visual projection of the good life interpretation of this era is in the movie, “The Great Gatsby”.

This era was when technology started to advance, like washing machines and vacuum cleaners. Yet, despite with all the parties and freedom, birth control devices increased its availability. Hey, gotta still have some safe ‘fun’ while you can party right? It was more sexually free time period. That wasn't just the only good part, automobiles were also on the rise, with low prices, the possibility of credits made cars such affordable luxury goods. Services related to cars and drivers such as motels and service stations were on good business meeting driver’s needs. Other expenses of extra money, they spent it on ready-to-wear clothes, and home appliances, specifically radios. Movie theatres and jazz was a thing as well.

On the fashion trend side, it was all uniquely glamorous. Ladies wore their hair in short bobbed style, short skirts on the waists and some were a little below the waist skirts. Smoking in public with the iconic opera length cigarette holder, drinking and what was called, “unladylike” things. Women wearing flappers

The two main social tensions were the prohibition, which was illegal to sell any “intoxication beverages” with more than 0.5% alcohol. The other thing was the cultural civil war, The Great Migration of African Americans from the Southern countryside to Northern cities and the increasing visibility of black culture.

Despite the social tensions, I still wish I was born in the 1920s. It was the period of transition between the old and the modern. The parties, the freedom, the glam lifestyle, the possibility in almost all things, the fashion and style - it all sounds and looks so very interesting. Also, I feel like when you are in the time period of the 1920s or older, everything is still vintage and no advanced technology existed yet. In which I personally love. I am a living young millennial who appreciates the advanced technologies and inventions today, but, honestly, I appreciate and look up to people who survived and lived in the no-tech life. This is another topic for me to discuss my viewpoints on another post. As for now, I say, this era should be cherished and lived on by people today more. The 1920s basically reminds us to celebrate life. Parties aren't always a bad thing, it really is a way of appreciating the moments of life, appreciating themselves living together on earth. The similarities that brings unity is something for us to keep in mind too as we live on. You see these values are what today’s people should have as a lifetime practice.

I really would love to know what your opinions and viewpoints about the 1920s.
